Types of Tuition

I provide one-to-one private tuition in English for children
aged seven to eighteen, including tutoring for KS2, SATs, KS3, GCSE and A Level

KS2

KS2

Sessions for children in KS2 are tailored to focus on improving areas of weakness in both reading and writing.

Activities for reading include comprehension tasks and analysis of author techniques, while activities for writing focus on vocabulary, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and writing in a range of forms for different audiences and purposes.

SATs

SATs

In Year 6 preparation for SATs exams at school intensifies and children often find these national assessments overwhelming.

One-to-one sessions will give your child more confidence and will be tailored to ensure practice of the key skills required to succeed in these tests.

KS3

KS3

Sessions for children in KS3 can support your child with the transition between primary and secondary education and help them to improve their skills in reading and writing.

As with KS2, activities for reading include comprehension tasks and analysis of author techniques, while activities for writing focus on vocabulary, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and writing in a range of forms for different audiences and purposes.

Sessions will also prepare pupils for the demands of GCSE English and GCSE English Literature.

GCSE

GCSE English and GCSE English Literature

Most GCSE exam courses are now 100% exam-based, which means learning the skills and exam techniques for succeeding at GCSE level is more important than ever.

As an examiner for AQA GCSE English I can tailor sessions to include tips and advice to ensure that your child will fulfil their potential, whether they are aiming to attain a 5 or a 9 grade.

Sessions can focus on general preparation over the academic year or on specific exam techniques in the lead up the mock and GCSE exams.

A Level English Language

A Level English Language

English Language at A Level is very different from GCSE English.

Sessions will focus on gaining a thorough understanding of new terminology and concepts.

As an examiner for A Level Language I can give specific tips and advice for responding to exam questions.

As with GCSE, I can tailor sessions to focus on general preparation over the academic year or specific exam techniques in the lead up to the mock and AS and A Level exams.

I can also assist with coursework which forms a part of the AS and A Level English Language specification.

A Level English Literature

A Level English Literature

English Literature at A Level demands a more in depth and perceptive level of analysis than GCSE Literature.

Sessions will focus on analytical essay writing skills and comprehension of set texts.

I can tailor sessions to focus on general preparation over the academic year or specific exam techniques in the lead up to the mock and AS and A Level exams.

I can also assist with coursework which forms a part of the AS and A Level English Literature specification.
