I believe that private tuition can boost a child’s confidence and ensure progression and a deeper understanding of concepts related to English. I am an approachable, friendly, enthusiastic tutor and I strive to make English an enjoyable subject.
In 2005 I attained a 2.1 in my degree in English Language and Literature BA (Hons) at Newcastle University before completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Magazine Journalism at Cardiff University.
After five years working as a journalist for a wide range of publications including Radio Times, Writing Magazine and Yorkshire Ridings, I decided to have a career change and completed a PGCE in Secondary English at York University.
I taught in schools in both the state and private sectors for six years and have experience teaching across the age range including KS3, GCSE and A Level Literature and Language. I was a Second in Department and Lead Teacher for A Level English Language – my specialist subject.
Since 2016 I have run my own private tuition business and have tutored many children while bringing up my own two young boys. I currently also tutor students in the academies at several Premier League football clubs, both face-to-face and online. I am an examiner for both GCSE English Language and A Level English Language, giving me an insight into what examiners require from students. I have also published a GCSE Literature revision guide for A Christmas Carol and worked on a freelance basis for the website The School Run.
Emma helped me achieve the best grade possible as she not only thoroughly explains ideas,
concepts and research into the subject, but also provided me with additional,
relevant information which is useful
as this greatly boosted my knowledge so I could achieve a better grade. Furthermore the study sessions are always enjoyable
as a
relaxed atmosphere is created. Aside from this, she is punctual and very reliable.
I would recommend hiring Emma if someone is looking for a tutor as she will provide the
best experience possible!
Emma Rejto, A Level English Language
Emma is a very passionate and exceptional teacher who helped my son achieve A grades in both his English Language and
English Literature GCSEs - he was predicted
B grades in both subjects before he began his tutoring.
Mrs Heather Couch
My daughter really benefited from Emma’s tuition and gained top grades in English Literature
and English Language in her GCSE exams.
Emma has a friendly and supportive approach and gave my daughter the confidence to succeed;
she is an excellent tutor and I would recommend her highly.
Dr Elizabeth Kebbell
Mrs Larard is an effortlessly talented and giving teacher, for whom going above the call of duty is the norm.
Through her teaching, I refined not only my
specialist English (Language) studies but also acquired more specific skills,
notably cultivating invaluable proofreading techniques, conquering a common challenge amongst students.
Mrs Larard is also one of the few teachers in this world for whom you are more than a number and she ensures
that you are never a faceless student, but always a
person with specific needs. She easily excels as a caring,
intelligent and wise teacher and I know that, with her efforts, learning to a high standard was never a burden.
Alice Gold, English Language A Level
Dyslexia can be a major worry for anyone studying English. It was for me too!
Mrs Larard helped me through my English course and taught me in a way I understood,
helping me to achieve my target grade of a 'C'.
Ben Weeks, A Level English Language
I can't recommend Emma enough.
My son Harry has made excellent progress; more importantly he is really enjoying tutoring
and is gaining more and more confidence.
