About Me

I have given many one-to-one sessions both at school
and as a private tutor for children from KS2 through to A Level

Emma Larard

I believe that private tuition can boost a child’s confidence and ensure progression and a deeper understanding of concepts related to English. I am an approachable, friendly, enthusiastic tutor and I strive to make English an enjoyable subject.

In 2005 I attained a 2.1 in my degree in English Language and Literature BA (Hons) at Newcastle University before completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Magazine Journalism at Cardiff University.

After five years working as a journalist for a wide range of publications including Radio Times, Writing Magazine and Yorkshire Ridings, I decided to have a career change and completed a PGCE in Secondary English at York University.

I taught in schools in both the state and private sectors for six years and have experience teaching across the age range including KS3, GCSE and A Level Literature and Language. I was a Second in Department and Lead Teacher for A Level English Language – my specialist subject.

Since 2016 I have run my own private tuition business and have tutored many children while bringing up my own two young boys. I currently also tutor students in the academies at several Premier League football clubs, both face-to-face and online. I am an examiner for both GCSE English Language and A Level English Language, giving me an insight into what examiners require from students. I have also published a GCSE Literature revision guide for A Christmas Carol and worked on a freelance basis for the website The School Run.

Kind comments from parents / students after my teaching...
